Pythagoras Who Needs Him?

Missing image

Pi R squared, what does it mean?

I never knew then when I was a teen,

I’m older and wiser or so they say

but it doesn’t mean much, even today.

No use at all, a mathematical term

mere thought of it tends to make me squirm,

in everyday life I’ve had no need

a house, a job a family to feed.

Have to get my priorities right

need some money to pay for the light,

gas and electric, mortgage is high

Pythagoras alone would not get me by.

Calculations, yes, I have to do

money enough to see the week through,

logs and sine’s and all of that stuff

don’t pay the bills when life’s getting tough.

Higher maths to me is no use at all

not a requirement to shop at the mall,

Dear Contest Maker as you will see,

this is all that you get from little old me.

    greek...!

Very clever poem my friend! My mind could never operate at more than a simple maths level either! As usual your rhyme was great and your poem flows well.
Great stuff. Good luck in the contest!

Exactly my thoughts too - it's all Greek to me! I was baffled by algebra and all that, but wasn't bad at English, which helps with the writing. I enjoyed reading your poem, even though it brought back memories of maths classes at school - yuk. Good luck in the contest.

    Brill!

A subject which has never been close to my ticker.
Amazing that you could create such wonderful poetry about such a ghastly subject.
    Top marks mate!

    I enjoyed it

The poem that is, I can't understand how poor old Pythagoras can pass anyone by, but this isn't a maths fan site!

Your house stands up because a man
Knew how to build it from a plan
    Pythagoras's rule was need to
Ensure the angles were all true
So although the rule has passed you by
I think perhaps that you could try
To understand that without that Pi r squared
From falling brickwork you wouldn't be spared!
