When I first lay, bundled up in the bassinet,
You picked me up and looked at me
With eyes full of pride, swimming with love and hope;
I knew, somewhere, somehow, I was Daddy's little girl right then.
You read me beautiful stories,
Made magic come true in the silence of the night
Creating images exploding with hues and stars
Brightening the dark, spreading golden rays of cheer and light.
You supported me when I fell down
You picked me up when I was hiding from you in the shadows.
Made me believe that asking for help was okay;
You gently wiped my wounds.
I know I have a lot of secrets now.
Relationship wrapped with the clouds of unknown.
I want you to know that I still love you, trust you.
I just need to be your girl now.
The brave girl you wanted me to be.
The girl you have made me.
