Settlers of olden days speak of her
Susan of the Pike's Peak fame
she was from Alabam so they say
singing bango playing was her game.
Twas hard in those days of yore
everyone worked none got by free
day time she walked the trail
nights sang till all found dream.
Little sleep oft she did get
yet a days walk she still had to do
learn new works to same tired tunes
all so she could keep amusing you.
Not one did feel bad for her
none shared much food on the trip
a poor girl trying to be honest
not sharing virture just lip.
Somewhere along the way
no one noticed she stopped and sat
they rolled on giving no mind
leaving her broken, sad no hat.
