Surrender

Missing image
caves beckoned
Cro-Magnon glistening
among its silvered depths
kissing shivers upon
modern lips
with centuries glaze;

mountainous chest rising
massively muscled
against sunsets of emotion
while fingertips dipped
impatiently into turquoise
depths of imagination's
surrender;

Celts and Basques
once silently waited
to walk in Roman sandals
upon forever gleaming
Spanish sands;

and time passed
too quickly
leaving only footprints
forged upon soils soul;

gold lay shimmering
under fans
of ebony lashes
enticing would be
protectors
yet shielding
from Moorish
German eyes;

and she was Isabella
held tightly against
the rock of his Pyrenees
where sun ascended
brilliantly adorned
paying homage
with lips drenched
in delicious wine;

they came to conquer him
yet remained chained
by the throes
of her elation
where eyes climaxed
in pools of rainbows
dripping across
succulent vineyards;

and the language of
ageless lovers
sensuously fell
upon thirsting ears
straining for fulfillment;

armadas drifted proudly
across dancing waves
with bows seeping tears
of loss behind them
for they cried when not
anchored safely
to his welcoming shore;

she was the beauty
of virginal fertility
softening the edges of
his hardened lands
queen of his kingdom
married by the eternal
flames of sensory lust;

they seductively dance
tightly wrapped in
swirling silk tapestries
woven by history
entwined together;

limbs and lush lips
promising
paradise's release
amidst the sparkling fans
of flamingo feathers
floating erotically
upon a velvet
Spanish breeze...

    Outstanding imagery throughout. This is captivating. Your use of metaphor brushes back and forth between vision and sight, shadow and substance with fluid grace drawing the mind along reality's blurred edges. Sensual, emotional, and rhytmic. I love the subtle use of alliteration. Wonderfully written.

    You weave a seductive vision in this finely-wrought poem, my friend. A strongly-worded and well-structured piece, which I enjoyed thoroughly.
