One year ago today

One year ago today

One year has passed since you left us to grieve
the loss of you upon this earthly plain.
You could not stay; I know you had to leave.
Your heart was weak; you could not stand the pain.

I still recall you standing near my side;
they sent you home you had a pain in chest.
With meds you went to bed and there you died
unknown to us; we thought you went to rest.

So now it’s time to let you leave in peace
and keep the memories of you alive
but now your soul I know I must release.
Within my heart, your spirit will survive.

My mother-side still yearns to have you here
to walk in through the door and speak to me
and, though I know your spirit lingers near,
I must not hold you here - you must be free.

Your Dad will move on too and let you live
the life you chose when first you came to earth.
He has to know he still has much to give;
release the pain and learn his children’s worth.

Soar high above the clouds my Son! Be free!
You have the freedom now you lacked before
to visit scenes you thought you’d never see;
the world and universe are yours for sure.

And, now a year has passed without you here,
within our hearts we’ll always hold you near.

Author notes

Today in Australia is the last day I saw my Son alive and another 2 days before we found him.
Today we celebrate 1 year since he left his earthly body and is now free to enjoy his new life.
He is happy, so I am not making this a day of sadness as Brian doesn't want us to be sad. Tonight we'll celebrate his life with some of his friends down the pub he used to go to with his mates.

      Thank you CG for your lovely comment. A Mother feels it because she bore that child, just as a Father also feels the loss of a child who goes before him as Bob is doing at the moment,It has hit him very hard, he has aged considerably, especially as Brian went so suddenly and unexpected.

    Dear Bea,

    I know that, in spite of your determination not to give way to grief and sadness that the approach to this, the first anniversary of the day Brian died, has been nonetheless stressful for you and I can only hope that my verbal efforts to comfort you have been of some help.
    This beautiful poem is an eloquent testimony to your abiding love for him as for Michael, Sharon and Julie
    and this, together with your faith and your memories will enable you to let Brian go and to move on as he would wish.
    I ask you to read again: http://allpoetry.com/poem/3241342
    in the hope that it will give you some additional comfort.
    With much love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

      Dear Hugh,
      Thankyou my dear Friend for always being here for me. You understand how I would be feeling, even though I try to put on a brave front it still hurts and takes time to get through the healing process. Bob is taking it very hard, especially today. He's very uptight at the moment.
      Your poem has given me considerable comfort my dear.
      Love Bea
