Forgotten

A village on Derbyshire's border,
Where I live amongst noisy disorder,
Mad traffic hogs the road,
Big lorries, heavy load,
Chaos reigns,
It's insane,
It's home,

Our local bobby is nicknamed Houdini,
Because so many often say 'Where is he?',
While crime is occurring,
He'll sit stirring,
His tea,
In Co-op,
With a bickie,

The back streets are a place of despair,
A sight of which most aren't aware,
The main road is pretty,
But take a walk up the jitty,
It stinks,
It's overgrown,
What a pity!,

Our car parks keep being sold,
To park now you have to be bold,
People park on the lines,
And ignore all the signs,
No-one cares,
No-one sees,
No police!,

It used to be lovely round here,
Without the yobs who now create fear,
The community died,
The council lied,
We're ignored,
Pushed around,
Forgotten.

Author notes

This is Sandiacre, Derbyshire, England where I have lived all my life. We have only one policeman as do many of the small villages here. This is my take on my home town.

Explanation of some words which are local dialect for me = Jitty - an alleyway.
Bickie - biscuit.
Co-op - local shop.
Bobby - policeman.

OH!! What a clever poem, so beautifully written and the story is splendid, although sad, it seems... Hope you stay put at night with only one Bobby out and who knows where?

Yeah...it seems odd to me that only one policeman would be stationed in one town. I had to laugh outright at the obvious stupidity of the authorites...lol...but in ways, that is also quite alarming.

      Thanks

Thanks, Yes I did mean it to be read in a humourous way but I wanted to show that basically our village is ignored by the local authorities and quite honestly what else can you do but laugh?
