I am the city--
and I never sleep.
Under the sodium glare
of my midnight streets,
I see my children weep.
The dark secrets,
the dreams people hide
in the caverns of their mind,
are an open book to me--
yet I do not chide.
They are my children--
I am the Mother City.
Like all children, they
will sin against their parent.
Oh, I am filled with pity!
They are born
in my concrete womb;
they will live, marry, die
in my bustling neighbourhoods--
and I will be their tomb.

A rhymed poem with a fine
informing metaphor. I agree that the final stanza is not simply conclusive; it crowns your poem in this wonderful work of personification and metaphor.
This poem almost rivals William Blake's poem, "London".

Also, ABBA:
"I'm the street you walk
The language you talk
I am the city
Yes I am the city you let me be ..."
This is original thinking and creative enterprise with imagery to reinforce the desolation from birth to the grave that a big city can become: an end in itself; a living monster. Thank you for the pleasure of reading your poem.

Amazing is the word I give to that last stanza,
and really, to the overall concept. I favor
personification and here, you breathe a city
to life. Phrases such as: "concrete womb"
should be singled out for creative recognition.
