God-Awful

I read the Bible once or twice,
It struck me as a text lacklustred,
I turned the pages once or twice,
I feel conflicting thoughts a-flustered.

I read the Bible once or twice,
It gave me to a vicious rumour,
I turned the pages once or twice,
Did God really have no sense of humour?

I read the Bible once or twice,
Surely it can not be true,
I turned the pages once or twice,
If it’s what I believe, what can I do?

I read the Bible once or twice,
God must be a comic lord!
I turned the pages once or twice,
Are we only here because he was bored?

I read the Bible once or twice,
And on the seventh day, God slept,
I turned the pages once or twice,
And he forgot where ingenuity was kept.

I read the Bible once or twice,
It left his mind while he was in his dreams,
I turned the pages once or twice,
But, fear not! It is not how it seems.

I read the Bible once or twice,
We live still, though troubled, of course,
I turned the pages once or twice,
He gave us emotion so death would take force.

I read the Bible once or twice,
But we remain, proud by the score,
I turned the pages once or twice,
We are mankind, hear us roar!

I read the Bible once or twice,
We’re doing all that we can do,
I turned the pages once or twice,
God, my Lord, we’re coming for you…
