Bicycle Seasons

wheel past, fast and faster with each
new year’s snow, each crocus not
afraid to broach thin ice, each ripened peach
hidden in thin green-gold veils. Hot

shimmer-summers lumber ever
faster into fall, all apple-crisping air;
then shake as with decrepit fever
into snow-snuggling black-bare

willow plaits already plotting
with west winds to overthrow,
to blow away dark chill-clotting
and let the faintest saffron glow.

Fast and faster, hastier and no more
cautious of kaleidoscopic blurs
that become years and years; the door
to spring opens, not on summer

but inexplicably almost upon itself;
and another season-cycle wheels,
radiates upon the hub-starred shelf
of all my ages -- pleaches as it heals.

    Can’t hold on to Summer.
    Can’t hold on to Fall.
    Winter’s somewhat slower
    but Spring out runs us all.
    Seasons ever turning.
    Rushing. What to win?
    Nothing. That’s just how they are
    and there they go again.

      Thanks for the delightful response-poem. I keep telling myself I need to try some poetry-comments but don't. I appreciate your taking the time. And more thanks for the contest and the gold. Both much appreciated.

    This works beautifully! I like the way the images bring up more than one season and the fact that the images are all so vivid. Good luck in the contest!
