Early Birds

Four in the morning
the stove burns
metal pans, pancakes
rising.

Conversations
drifting through
minutes and hours,
passing time
slowly.

Family Guy
playing in the
background, laughter
fills the room
with joy.

Two years of
happiness continue
to grow like
fields of memories,
experiencing
good and bad
together.

Sunset ascending,
a new dawn
greets us with
bright warmth,
beaming.

Never has
bliss seemed to
last so long, but the
smile in your eyes
is enough to
last me an
eternity.

I love this poem because it seems so familiar. I can read parts and say, "Yeah, I had mornings like that." or "that happens to me all the time."

People in all our variations can't help but be the same.

The poem ends on such a happy note only a smile seems befitting.

    Lovely write Kerri.

what i love about this is that its hard to tell between reflection and reminessance, similar but distinct in poetry. while i know it did not take you the course of two years to write this i still beg the question, written at the place and time? excellent work, reminds me why youre one of my favorite poets, and also why youre published! good luck on the new book!

Thank you. There is so many good things in this place that not many can seem to find anymore... It's truly sad when somebody can't see the beauty in the world. Your comment was touching, thanks for that. ♥
