Erious was in the woods when he caught Mirages’ scent.
He followed it, unable to do anything else.
There she was, in the river.
She smelled him.
It was him, her guy.
She saw him and ran to him.
Her mind told her to be cautious but her heart wouldn't listen.
Her heart demanded that she go to her mate.
He couldn't believe it.
She was right there in front of him.
He nudged her and she nudged him back.
Then they heard her dad, Stonard, yelling for her.
Before they could go anywhere he was there.
This is what Erious feared.
Mirage was caught between being with her mate and doing as her dad said.
But then he made the choice for her.
Erious left her and her dad.
He ran.
He wasn't going to actually live the nightmares.
It is just better to leave now before anything happened.
He hears something behind him.
If it is her dad then he will explain, but if her dad won't listen then he will fight and die.
Mirage followed him wanting to be with him, but her dad stopped her.
He made her go home and get dressed.
She paced her bedroom floor for hours, wondering what her dad was doing to her mate.
If she had to choose she knew who she would choose.
Him she had to choose him.
She wanted to choose him.
She was about to disobey her dad when he came up to her room to tell her that he couldn't find the boy.
She ran out of the house and transformed into the wolf.
She ran through the woods trying to find his scent, but couldn't find it.
Just as she was about to give up, she noticed her surroundings.
She recognized them from her dreams.
She ran to his house.
No lights were on inside so she went around to the barn and walked inside.
She could smell him in here.
She ran to one of the stalls and walked up to him.
Erious jumped up and bared his fangs to her.
Then he caught her scent and looked around him looking for her dad.
He didn't want her dad knowing she was here.
He brought her back home and turned to leave when her dad stopped him.
He couldn't believe it.
How did he not smell her dad?
How will he get out of here without killing her dad?
He turned around and ran for the street only to be blocked by more males.
He would have to fight them to get away.
He didn't mind but he didn't want her to think him an animal, but that is what he is.
An animal.
He had no pack, no family.
He was alone and a true animal.
He rushed one of the males and bit his leg.
He jumped on another’s back and dug his claws into the guys back.
He was able to get away from them but he heard her coming at him.
He turned away and howled.
The pack was there, and not a werewolf pack but a wolf pack, the real wolves.
They there and they would defend him if he asked it of them.
She stopped when she saw the pack.
She looked at him and couldn't believe her mate would act this way.
She turned back to human and felt a tear slide down her cheek.
Her father came up behind her and put his coat around her.
She looked at the wolf and his pack but he wasn't really part of the pack.
She could tell.
The pack didn't really trust him and he didn't really trust them either.
He turned around and started walking back into the woods when he sensed something.
A hunter.
He howled and the pack took off into the woods where they belonged.
He was in pain.
She was running to him when the hunter came out and warned not to go around him, that he was dangerous.
He realized who the hunter was.
His father.
How could his own father do this to him?
He knew his father hated him but still, his own son.
His form turned itself into it's real from, a cross between a wolf and coyote.
They all gasped when they saw him and he saw the look she gave him.
He howled in pain and rushed his dad.
He wasn't going to let his dad live if he was going to die.
He outweighed his dad in this form.
His dad fell to the ground and scrambled for the gun.
He shot his son a second and third time.
He turned into a human long enough to take the gun away from his dad and threw it into the woods.
He then snapped his dad's neck.
Dead.
Now he could die with peace in his heart.
He turned back towards her and saw the look of disgust on her face.
He then said, "What? I can't kill my own father after he's tried to kill me for so long? Not fair? Too bad."
He fell to the ground and when she tried to help him, he growled at her and ran into the woods.
He couldn't take one form or the other since it took to much energy to do it.
She didn't understand this man was his father and he tried to kill his own son.
She looked up at her father and her father had look of horror on his face.
She saw a woman come out of the woods and she looked a little like him.
Kersra ran to her husband.
The woman howled and her pack came out of the woods.
She sent one of them to go find her son and to bring him back here.
The one she had sent came back dragging him.
He was unconscious.
Mirage ran to him when the guy dropped him on the road.
She looked up at her dad and back down to her mate.
Would her father allow her to be with him?
Would her father give him to his pack to be killed?
She couldn't stop all the scenarios playing in her mind.
She felt him shiver and covered him up with her dads' coat.
When he opened his eyes, he saw her looking down at him with understanding and love in her eyes.
He tried to move but then his mother was there pulling him away from her.
He couldn't defend himself this time.
He had no energy.
Mirage couldn't believe the amount of hate his mother showed.
She didn't understand it.
How could a mother hate her child so much?
Her pack watched in horror as his mother threw him into a car.
She screamed and ran to him, wanting to kill his mother herself.
His mother pushed her away from him and picked him up again to throw him.
He hit a tree this time.
Before she could do anything, she watched as he was repeatedly thrown into anything that would cause excruciating pain.
When he was thrown into a car next to her, she ran to him and threw herself on top of him.
She wasn't going to let that bitch lay one more hand on him.
When she felt his mothers' hand on her, she turned into her wolf form and jumped on his mother.
From a distance he could tell there were wolves fighting.
He could hear them and when he opened his eyes he panicked.
She was fighting his mother.
He tried to get up but he couldn't.
Then he watched her get thrown into a tree.
Before he could stop himself he had leaped for his mothers' throat.
He felt great joy when his fangs tore out her throat.
He ran to her side and nudged her with his nose.
He kept nudging her, but she wouldn't open her eyes.
He had to know she was okay.
When he whined her father knew something was good.
He ran to his daughter and picked her up.
His wife met him outside and looked at her daughter.
Stonard looked behind him but didn't see Erious.
He took Mirage upstairs to her bedroom.
All through the woods the wolves were howling a sad mournful song.
He knew why too.
He ran outside and into the woods.
Erious was unable to cover his scent this time and was easy to follow.
What he found was an old farm house fixed up.
He went around back into the barn but didn't see him.
He went into the house and stopped on the threshold.
What he saw surprised him.
The boy was a talented artist and he had drawn his daughter many times.
Written under one of the drawings were the words "My Mate."
He found Erious in a room upstairs unconscious.
He tried to pick him up but he was too heavy.
He heard footsteps and was determined to protect Erious.
But he needn't have worried it was one of his sons coming up the stairs.
They got Erious back to their home safely without any problems.
When they laid Erious on the bed he started to thrash around.
Stonard called the doctor and had to help him operate on Erious to get the bullets out.
After they had finished Mirage had woken up and followed Erious scent to the spare bedroom.
She walked into the room and looked down at him.
Her father came up behind her and told her he would be alright.
Then he turned around and walked out the room closing the door.
She went to Erious’ side and sat on the side of the bed.
Her scent invaded his nostrils.
Was it really her or just another dream?
He opened his eyes and saw her looking over his injuries.
She looked up and their eyes met.
He tried to get up, but found that his hands and legs were tied down.
He growled and tried to break the restraints.
She jumped up when he started to try to break the restraints.
He kept growling, so she untied his legs and hands.
He tried to get up, only to find that she was pushing on his chest to keep him down.
Mirage couldn’t believe that he would try to run after last night.
She bared her teeth when he kept trying to get up, so she did the first thing that popped into her mind.
She got on the bed with him and lay down by him with her head resting on his shoulder.
His arms wrapped around her of their own accord and held her close.
She felt good against him and he didn’t want this dream end.
They heard someone coming up the stairs and stopping at the door.
Then the footsteps went away.
She looked up at him and told him that he needed to sleep.
When she tried to get up, he held her tighter.
She tried again and he held her against him.
She didn’t try to get up again.
She knew he wouldn’t let her go.
Erious held her tighter right before he drifted off to sleep.
He didn’t want to wake up and not have her in his arms.
When he woke up she was gone.
He new it was all a dream and then the door opened and there she was.
She walked back to him and pushed him over and got on the bed with him again.
She liked being held in his arms.
He looked down at her and thought that maybe, just maybe this was all real.
He knew when she was asleep because her breathing deepened.
He saw her hand resting over his heart right before sleep claimed him again.
They were both awakened when her father yelled for them.
Mirage looked at Erious and was about to open the door when it thrown opened.
Erious jumped off the bed and in front of her.
He didn’t know what was happening but he wasn’t going to lose her now.
Her brother came in the room and closed the door.
He went to the window and opened it.
He told Mirage to jump out the window and run into the woods.
Erious knew she wouldn’t go without him.
He went to the window with her and waited for her to jump out the window.
When she was safely in the woods, he turned around and ran out the front door of the house to see what his pack wanted.
Mirage couldn’t believe that he didn’t come with her.
She heard wolves growling low in their throats but all of a sudden her dad was there to stop her from going to see what it was.
She tried to get around him but more and more of her brothers would stop her.
After what seemed like an hour she heard him howl in pain.
Erious was hit with a metal bat on his hind leg.
He felt her coming to him before he saw her.
He tried to get her to go away but she wouldn’t.
She was running her hands over his body feeling all of his injuries.
Her dad pulled her up and away from Erious.
She screamed for him to let her go but he wouldn’t.
Erious watched as his cousin came up to him with the bat in his hands.
He knew what was about to happen.
He could hear her screaming as his cousin beat him with the bat.
He heard something break.
When he tried to get up his legs buckled and he fell back to the ground.
He was looking at her when his heart stopped.
Mirage screamed so loud that her father let her go so he could cover his ears.
She ran to Erious and felt for his pulse.
She looked around her, looking for someone to help her.
But his pack was leaving now that he was dead.
She yelled at the guy that had killed Erious.
He looked at her and said “He was an abomination.”
Then he left.
The wolves came out of the woods and slowly mad their way to where Erious lay on the ground.
They each nudged him and looked at her hoping that she could wake him up.
They howled as the minutes passed and Erious didn’t get up.
Mirage looked over her shoulder when she heard footsteps.
Her dad tried to pick her up but she wasn’t going anywhere.
After her pack went to their houses, she lay down by him and held him in her arms and pressed a kiss to his lips.
It was almost dawn when the wolves nudged her to wake her up.
She made a shift and the wolves dragged it with Erious on it to his house.
She went inside and found all the pictures of her that he had drawn.
She went upstairs and lay down in his bed.
She slept the day away.
She got up to eat something and went back to sleep and slept the next day away.
She felt something on the bed next to her and when she opened her eyes, she stared unable to breathe.
No he couldn’t be alive.
He was dead.
But here he was, right here in the bed with her looking at her.
He smiled at her and wiped her tear away.
Then he pulled her into his arms and held her for the rest of the night and the rest of their lives.
