“I see!” they say,
“I think?”
“I know?“ they may?
I SHRINK!
Each and every word they think to please,
To act what they are not, and of their ignorance appease!
Wisdom then they wish to so command!
Within a world where no one man, will ever understand,
“I read!” they read!
“I saw!”
“I know?” they plead,
To show the wisdom they adore!
To say, and do, and write, and know?
That others from their wisdom grow,
And each and every heart that lives, to think upon their wisdom gives?
Yet misconstrued in many ways,
Their words I question why?
For always then the need in them, for others minds to sigh!
That all the wisdom they did plea, a benefit to you and me?
I shrink the thought they think they know?
For wisdom never heart to grow!
A man to say he understands?
And so control his hearts demands!
But never wisdom in my heart to see!
For love not mind to open it,
And wisdom not the key!

excellent
Thank you Keith for this authentic beautiful poem. It describes so clear how our mind usually functions and how we project our way to think into the world My Congratulations for your silver trophy and all the very best for you.

Reading wisdom makes one knowledgeable, not wise.

Your poem reminds me of a cartoon I saw once, one girl says to another, "Everything he knows comes from books." It is not enough. It is truly wise, as you say, to use experience to choose love.
Congratulations on your silver trophy, I enjoyed reading your thoughts.

I enjoyed this entry with a chuckle ...
for truly you stated the ambivalence between LOVE and WISDOM but then ended USING WISDOM (by experience and knowledge, as Marion said) to chose LOVE!
So cute!
Did God Himself not declare: But the greatest of all is Love?
Congratulations on the trophy, Keith.
Blessed be.

I just love this poem ...
I imagine you position yourself in the "love-clan" in this contest ...
this verse masterfully and playfully responds to the prompt and speaks of the tendencies of the mind in a perfect manner ... maybe here, the word "wisdom" has to be understood in the sense of "knowledge" (rather than Knowing) ...
thank you for this excellent entry,

I am human Maa!
I have tried to fight against nature all of my life.
To try to be in control through my mind.
But it is impossible, always just one look from a woman.
And nature brings all my wisdom and learning and experience.
Crashing to the ground.
I am enveloped within nature, I am more of a human being then I ever thought I was.
To learn and train the mind and control it is clinical, and not natural to me anymore.
So I just gave in and found the wonder and simplicity, and the answer to all I wished to know. Because all I wish to know is the light in a womans eyes.

flowed so smoothly to and fro.........
I loved the smooth rhythm and rhyme. It put me in the statue's place, as if I were the one encased in bronze to ponder for all eternity.
