Dearest “God”,
How are you today?
do things go well,
drowning in the insipid glare,
the bland uniformity
of “the light” of Heaven?
Can you not see the irony?
Do you not taste the bitterness?
that all you have in your grasp,
all that stands before you,
is there because of me?
It is such a strange thing
that man created you
in his own image,
then you created me
to absolve you of all you could be blamed for.
Yet you have constructed,
forever between us,
this insurmountable wall of hate.
come now, “My Lord”
can you not once let me in?
For where would you be
without me at your side?
My greatest trick, they say,
was persuading the world
that I do not exist.
That, however is as far
from the truth of the matter
as it is possible to get,
my biggest trick was persuading the weak,
that you were worthwhile.
I am forever grateful for that.
You are now tied down
by the embittered chains
of the idiocy of your flock,
though in that, you take full advantage.
This has left me with no choice
but to turn to the “dregs”,
those that were cast aside from the sheeple.
Oh woe is me to be stuck
with the minds of the free and intelligent.
We are stuck forever,
you and I,
virulent man-made fantasies
of supposed simplistic
“Good vs. Evil”.
Archetypes and metaphors,
both parables of moral choices
for the uneducated masses,
a bothersome and archaic
system of control.
Little did we know,
that we would take on
a life or our own,
that we would both just become
an excuse to spread tribalism and hatred.
You are “The Way”
and I am “The Left Hand Path”.
However, let man journey
along either well-worn path,
where does he find himself?
The destination is always the same,
he finds himself betrayed,
betrayed and disappointed,
let down by his own inflexibility
and unwillingness to open his mind fully.
Can you not love me, old friend?
For you know in your un-beating heart,
in the very depths of your fictitious soul,
that there is only one truth:
At the core, we are one and the same.
Yours, forever in love,
“Satan”

Contest Prompt: Challenge #2
opposites. Tell me how they partain to each other
How neither can exist without the other.
Love and Hate. Fire and Ice.....
I shall leave this up to the readers to find the irony, the humour and the message in this.
However, I won't hold my breath.

ooooooooooooooooooooo i really like this! i always feel like the usual concept of satan and god is wrong and this is just... perfect! good luck!

Thank you kindly. There is so much about our perceptions of what is either unkown or non-existant that just becomes so soap opera and drama driven and these days, that is exactly what most religions and belief systems today have become.
-
-
ooo I like the one. I love the idea that God cannot exist without Satan. The truth in this is amazing. A serious subject twisted with humor. It flowed amazingly and your creativity in this blows my mind. Great write.
-
-
Thank you. Glad it came across exactly as intended. Some people just loose all sensible thought and constraint as soon as they see the words 'God' and 'Satan'.

You have truly written a masterpiece. Thanks for this, I enjoyed this part the most:
We are stuck forever
You and I
Virulent man-made fantasies
Of supposed simplistic
“Good vs. Evil”
Great words, and great work.

-
Thank you. It was an idea that I had been playing with for a while.

as if i had to wonder why you put God and Satan in parenthesis, with so many religions all worshiping different Gods, how do we not know that they arent actually worshiping Satan, or if you worship Satan, isn't that your God? .....thought provoking....

-
Thank you. That was mainly what I was striving for with this piece.

The destination is always the same
He finds himself betrayed
Betrayed and disappointed
Let down by his own inflexibility
And unwillingness to open his mind fully
that is the true fown fall of man.

Thank you very much. There really is no escaping it. We can only try and stop it happening within ourselves, I doubt we have any chance of changing things in the world at large.

-
oh snap!! i love it

Thank you very much. Again, was trying to make a point, but without being overly scathing and hopefully keeping some humour in it.

Amazing
wicked and just blazing. The way you slid in how the so called rightous leave the judged to seek refuge in the arms of someone other than God. Brilliant. And I have to say, I am surprised the Evangelicals have cursed your name and banned you from the WW christian network. Great piece.

-
-
Thank you very much. Not sure what you're getting at or who you are meaning by the Evangelicals or the WW Christian network?
Still, if I did know, I'd probably just ask them to do, you know, the CHRISTIAN thing and turn the other cheek.

Very dark and very well written, A bit scary
Your pointof view in this poem is very different from th enorm however that said it is still a good poem

-
-
Thank you.
It is from a stranger point of view this one and although adressed somewhat humorously, there is a few points there. Toying with the idea that God/Satan are man made achetypes, or at the very least, man made manifestations of the conflict within ourselves of good and evil.
Also playing with the thought that whatever God/Satan, for want of better names, if such beings exist, mankind has manipulated them over the years to the point where they have become, for want of a better way of putting it, "greater than the sum of their parts".
There is also the merest of hints at an idea that God & Satan may well be one and the same being. I know it seems like this piece is putting forward a particular viewpoint, but it's really just investigating and opening up different theological and philosophical ideas.

ohhh that is awesome! it's just so freakin... cool! so biting and i loved the ending:
Can you not love me, old friend?
For you know in your un-beating heart
In the very depths of your fictitious soul
That there is only one truth
At the core, we are one and the same
Yours, forever in love
“Satan”
you strike the point so well. fantastico!

Thank you very much. As I said elsewhere, it is something I'd been toying with for a while without actually putting it down, but the opportunity presented itself so I just went for it and it came out quite quickly.
I thought I would get a lot more flak for it than I have (hasn't been any yet), but looking around, there are far harsher pieces than this one on here on that given subject.

Ah Son... how long we've had this discussion. You streamlined our conversation very well and to this day, I still am utterly pleased with what has come of it.
This is one of your better writes, in my opinion.

-
It does really read like one of our "back and forths"/brainstorming sessions doesn't it?
-
-
Wow. I absolutely love this. Probably because I find the whole relationship between 'God' and 'Satan' ironic, or probably just because it amuses me. Good Luck in the various poems and Congratulations on a beautiful write.

Thank you.
I wanted to do something that highlighted the absurdity of it all a little, but didn't want to go into it too much or be overly offensive, just wanted it to be a lighthearted jibe. If we can't laugh at such absurdities, there really is no hope for humanity.

oops. comment by mistake.

I lol'd
XD I, for one, am not a Christian, but found this incredibly funny and original. I loved it! Very nice poem & thanks for entering!!!

Thank you. It is an idea I had been ticking over for a while, what would a letter from Satan to God say, so I just let it flow as it wished. There is those who will laugh when I say this is not intended as an attack on Christianity (I can REALLY do one of those, if people so wish to really see what that looks like), it was more a sideswipe at both Christianity and Satanism, especially the fluff, the inconsistancies and at times, the absurdity of the ideals of both.
-
-
... It's like we're the same person, lol. You did very well with this, and, like you, I know how to write an attack on someone or something [like Christianity... I've done those; just haven't gotten around to posting them]. But yeah, I see what you're saying.
