The parched ground a reminder of hunger deep within the soil,
a deep hunger for minerals, water and food.
Young are left dying on the sand with wide eyes
and swollen bellies everything is scarce.
The sun and sky burn dry and endlessly
A nation hungry
dying, crying
calling.
Hard hearts cannot feel the hunger growing deep
the ears are deaf not hearing the wailing
whimpering pains.
Sending some morsel to appease guilt,
eyes turn away
Yet bellies are not filled
hunger pains
not stilled.
It is not enough, sending food and drink in planes.
That does not suffice to sustain the immense
and growing hunger pains.
Teaching how to curb natures call to reproduce,
a start to protecting man from this poor state.
Education ministered with love and care.
Investigating ways in which to provide,
finding methods on how to survive
on ground so bare.
Aiding the nation patiently
to become an independent and
flourishing, satisfied people.
Will anyone hear the call
of Africa crying, dying?
The plundering has long ago ceased.
Riches taken, the greedy appeased
Who will now hear the call
as the hungry cry and fall?

the agony of Africa...
Powerful... and simply stunning. The truth and realism in this work takes the reader by the scruff of the neck and MAKES them look at what their eyes try to avoid!
Brilliant! Good luck in the contest!

The picture is heartwrenching... when I see things like that it's hard not to be overwhelmed by a feeling of helplessness. Wishing you the best of luck in the contest.
