Seven months I endured
convincing myself that I was happy.
all those weeks
knowing deep down I wasn't at times
[if not all]
but still going on
because to me
there wasn't anyone else
in the world that could make me
smile like him
until the day I acknowledged the truth
the day my true boy shined the light
down our own pathway.

all during this time
you've been there with me
closer than he
incognito at times
but that's just how you are.
& maybe that's just how
true love is.
