Frivolous music plays with my memories
It prances purposeless in the uninhabited area
Mostly little jigs choreographed, tapping or swaying
insipid routines insignificant in existence
I allow it to pour out and discharge my shuffle
an aimless bump and grind void of the daily jerks
Futile performances where I can-can frolic and fling
or waltz with my worthless clothes on a bunny hop
Without substance these recollections undulate
trivial shallow cakewalks the minuet they twist
or two-step rhythmical motions like a fox-trot
vacant in a Virginia reel or like a merengue monkey
Meaningless is the cha-cha, samba, conga and lambada
when unoccupied are my hollow arms for this number
Charleston and Peabody dump their flow and cavort
draining O’s like tango, mambo, and especially disco
Wiggle and gambol, slither and slide to melodies
where lindy leaps at the square dance in gray matter
Bare polka dots and a ball leap and bounce in my eyes
void of the hop or frog only a banal jitterbug ballet
Move I say to my feet and idle body unfulfilled
scared to swing or party, inane are my words to shake
They yearn to evacuate or skip the mazurka cotillion
void and vacuous like my senior prom - tapped out
Hop or jump into the soft-soled unoccupied shoes
the art of dancing is in the quadrille of my mind
The emptiness of this uninhabited dance floor
will swim between the synapses of disappointed want
Author notes
I went wild using so many dance names - hope you enjoy!

'its mildly embarassing to realise that i can dance almost evera one of thoes...
now, weather the dance floor is empty or no, it doesna seem to matter.. for danceing (this is for all ye lads especially) is like love makeing, and whilst can work quite well wi' any partner, when one is in love, no other does... and the dances then become hollow, because the feet know the steps, but the heart willna go. just loved this... and reminising now of the dances i 'ave had... some better then others.

what a variety of styles ... you indeed seemed to go wild with your dance ... I'm amazed how differently each one of the entrants treated the prompt ... and how much creativity was shared in so many different styles ...
thank you for this masterfully penned poem which was a great delight for me to read ...

Yep!
I just can't get you off of my mind!
This was quite the conondrum - the prompt for the contest was Emptyness Dancing - yet she didn't want a dark or sad poem!
So I put on my dancing shoes just for you!

Thanks again!

Would you by chance be looking for a dance partner?
I'd surely love to glide across the floor with the music (though, you might have to teach me a few of these, lol).
Nicely done once again.
Best of luck in the contest.
