i open my eyes, not
to the sound of
your gentle engine
in my ear
kick starting my morning
as you pad upon my pillow
but my weeping,
weeping for the loss
of my willow
to the sound of
your gentle engine
in my ear
kick starting my morning
as you pad upon my pillow
but my weeping,
weeping for the loss
of my willow

Remarkable metaphors and diction for such a short piece. You typed "i" instead of "I", but I suppose the letter is more important than the envelope. Poetically raw emotions make for a lethal combination. Thank you for your entry.

Awwww. You don't get very many poems about one's pets nowadays. And usually those aren't very good. But I have to say, your metaphor was pretty decent. A great relation between "engine" and "kick starting." The ending made me think back when I was five though. That's the only time I can remember weeping over an animal. Good work!

When I first read the part that said "gentle engine", I was confused. But after reading your author's note, I fully comprehend the meaning of that. Very good description...I remember my own cat humming and breathing deep within his chest. It was a soothing sound. Touching poem. I am sorry for your lost.

This was a great piece. I can really feel your pain. You painted a very vivid picture with your words.
All and all a very enjoyable poem
Well done.
Keep up the good work. -
Weeping for Willow...what a beautiful title for a poem and what a terrible thing that your cat shall die. No matter what cynical people say, a cat is as much a person as a human is, and their departing is desperately sad. I lost one of my lovely cats five years ago and I still wish he was here. Absolutely lovely poem.
