Dive Right In

I just wanted you to know
that I've missed being yours
and I've been sinking far below
deeper than the sandy shores

And I've drifted so far down
I can't feel you anymore
And I'm beginning to drown
in these memories from before

I could try and swim again
to find the warmth of the sun
but I decided to dive right in
the wake that soon had come

So maybe I won't fight this
and take what I'm ready for
so I give in to the strong currents
that pull me down to the ocean floor

And although it's completely dark
and the sun's warmth can't reach me
I feel like I'm ready to embark
on wherever this depth takes me.

Author notes

The vastness of the dark and unknown depths of the ocean is so easily comparable to the overwhelming emotions brought on after losing something with someone you love...

Sometimes, we have to know when to give in to the emotions that naturally follow such situations, because to turn our back on our emotions is what kills us on the inside.

As i have said before, this is a very good poem, and I think it speaks very well of the brokeness of a heart after a relationship.

This isn't as dark as you think it is, but the sensuality and imagery yo udisplay is good, keep up the good work, and good luck on the contest.

Wow I love this, probably because I feel most at home on the ocean, and sometimes on those really dark and dreary days your boat gets pulled under and it is just a struggle to stay afloat.. even though sometimes it is the funnest thing in the world, it can be so cold, you're soaked to the bone, and the wind keeps pushing you forward.
This poem meant a lot to me, the words keep echoing in my head after I read it..
Thank you a lot for writing it

      Thanks =)

Hi there Imacrazyface, wow I log in and am hit with an immediate smile, seeing many comments on many of my poems that you've read and found something about each one that you either liked alot or could relate.

Thank you for the kind words, and even adding that personalized view on your take of the comparison between the heartbreak from a painful breakup and the ocean and it's depths...

I, like yourself, also feel most at home on the ocean. And unfortunately it's been many years since I've lived in an area close enough to any of the seas to make visiting them somewhat of a short trip, but in my 24 years of wandering this blue planet I've had the fortune to live in states all around the US, that gave me the chance to spend quite a few days in the waters of all 3 oceans that surround the states... the Gulf of Mexico was the one that I fell in love with, when I lived in Florida for 7 years.... California was my next place of residence, as was it's murky coastline of the Pacific Ocean, and last I found myself in Virginia, not too far from the boardwalks of the Atlantic Ocean.

My main love is for the wildlife that fills the oceans, mainly the largest fish family in the sea, the sharks... I hope to one day make a career of photographing and studying large sharks, which would have me spend months out of every year far out at sea...

anyways, hehe sorry about goin on and on, but I felt your comment was one I could have made myself had I come across a poem such as this one written by another poet.... Thank you again for taking the time to read this write and giving it praise, as well as the comment you left, it means alot to me =)
