Every day on my evening stroll
I pass by this ridiculous wall
It's outrageously long,
Quite an eye sore to the community at large
It's over ten feet in height
with the most unattractive shrubbery
poking it's bony fingers over the top
Daring me to come closer
I have to admit, my curiosity got the best of me
Day in and out, walking past that monolithic blight
With no gate or entrance way in sight
What kind of lunatic would dare to contemplate
The very essence of isolation?
Cut off from neighbors
What of family or friends?
Gathering up my courage
One evening I crept up slowly
Contemplating how I would reach the top
With all the power I could muster in my legs
I bolted forward, full speed ahead
My eyes on the prize,
The top of that cursed wall!
My body crashed into the course bricks
Fingers reaching upward
Grappling any kind of foothold
In all the nooks and irregularities on it's rough surface
With much strained effort,
and certain bloodied knees
I finally felt my fingertips
Straining towards the edge of the stone top
With a renewed burst of strength
from God knows what reserve I had left
I reached out with fingered claws
and hurled myself past the top of that masonry!
Finding myself in a certain free fall
It never occurred to me
what exactly I might find on the other side...
Well,I finally found my answer
I just hope someone can find my broken body
beneath the brambles ,thorns, and shrubbery
Before I lose all hope...
