Between the rocks hidden on holy ground
the illusive world of Petra may be found
Carved from the rocks are columns and stairs
where once kings and craftsmen had their lairs
Cameras have come and films of many made
for Indiana Jones, Sinbad and others to invade
Biblical passages hearken a reference to flee
When the antichrist comes after you and me
I with my fantasy and a chisel in hand
want to be suspended creating statues grand
Here where only through the narrow path traverse
can you find this paradise without civilization’s curse
A Sonnet for Petra
Between ancient rocks hidden on holy ground
the illusive world of Petra is found
Carved from time worn rock are columns and stairs
Where once kings and craftsmen erected lairs
Cameras have come and films of many made
Indiana Jones and Sinbad invade
Biblical passages hearken, here flee
When the antichrist comes for you and me
My fantasy with a chisel in hand
to be suspended forming statues grand
Here where some through the narrow path traverse
Find paradise not a civilized curse
Formidable grandeur on such a large scale
Come be exposed gain knowledge of it’s tale

once again, you have an almost sonnet here. Remember last time? If you want to fool with it to standardize the syllable count of each line to 10 or 12, and add a final couplet, let me know. It's not necessary but might be fun. (you can enter it as a separate entry, even)
Man, I must be out of it that I didn't know this was a setting for so many films -- I guess I'm more the stone cutter type. I really like your concluding thought about traversing the narrow path and forgoing civilization's curse. It reminds me of that bible passage about how it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to enter into the Kingdom, which is a perfect allegory for Petra with its narrow passageways and camels. -
Some powerful writing here tang
good job little brother, wonder who you take after in your family. Mother earth who is always on the move Father time who weaves back and forth Your brother the west wind sending chill from the heart to the toes, Your sister the sun who often beats to hard on the sole of man, Or the cousin the moon who is lonely in the night and sometines hides fron us all. Your frien the day who stays such a shotr time m her frien the month never staying the same amount of days bring cold to hot and then warm sunny days. I like to think The queen who changed seasons to keep us from being boaed. Giving each of us a little fanaticy along the way. They are all you rolled up into one. You are the family how makes a raingow in each day.. God bless you tang You bring merriment to all you grace with you pen and smileing words. mzc

This is such a smart poem... beautiful and knowledgeable... I think you must be a museum curator. YES!!!
Why not? You can be anything you dream up on this site.
I think I shall take on a fake identity and become a senator's mistress!

Loved the way you wrote this, it's like you gave life to something that is deeply hidden. But you're always creative.
Good luck in the contest hun

This is such a beautiful place!
I've researched and read so much about this place and of course loved the Indiana Jones movie and the Sinbad (this one had a quicky look and Jane Seymore's - ummm - thinks of something - didn't work -> BREASTS! Yes, glorious breasts of the beautiful actress!
And the Biblical reference is so true also. Many think this is where the left behind Jews will flee to for safety.
