The Fall

Such promises I felt they rose within my being
Bright-eyed I wandered into the cathedral of your "love"
Open-minded, I sang, waiting for you to step up
I learned of nothing, but the throbbing
The cold
The echoing in the halls
It submitted to me the emptiness I felt within
Lonely as the thunder on a wet day
I departed

No sooner had I thought it through
Everyone else had left
Determined not to be alone, I sang for another
My spell I wove its tapestry into time
I felt I had it now
Little by little, it came
But not as I suspected
The bird-calls of yesterday they still echo in my brain
Lost promises return once again
My inner dragons are not slain

And now I'm void
I still stand here in the hallway
In the echoing Cathedral of your "love"
Standing, waiting
A wilted rose I clutch
The last hope for salvation in my hands
My eyes hold back the floods
That threaten to clear these polished temple floors

I could hear the echoing once more
The echoing was louder and it was your footsteps
Louder, louder, nearer, nearer
But ever far away
Swallowing great gulps of air
I rise to the surface and proclaim to the world
Nothing

Before you I stand diminished
I don't know what to say
You've done it all to me now
What you've done is gone away
Leaving me here in the doorway
Clutching my wilted rose
Dead petals fell to the floor

As the door on love, I close

Please tell me what you think
