For Symitar---
Antonio bought a guitar In San Antone,
From a Mexican that was fond of Gin,
Said it was made in Spain. Some Place called Madrid,
He played it all day long
From the Rio Bravo to mizzilou
Outside of Kansas city,
He was sounding pretty good by that time,
And he carried it to that black Saloon,
While the cattle ambled by.
We were pretty dry,
And we’d just got paid,
Had twenty dollars in my rebel hat,
And ten tucked in my boot,
And the whisky burned all the way down,
So I had another one,
She looked out from under that dusty hat,
She had on,
Straight at Antonio,
I figured it was bout time to go,
She was playing
Five card draw with some yankee boys
Still wearin ragged bits of Abe’s Uniforms,
Their sidearms worn, but oiled,
And they were pretty serious about their game.
Antonio smiled and got that guitar out,
I groaned and had another one,
Still had a quarter in the dust on the bar,
Figured what the hell
And loosened up my .44.
He struck a chord,
And asked her name
From too damn far away,
Cause all those boys looked up
At the same time,
She said “Rosarita”,
And damned if that wasn’t the song
He’d been singing all the way from San Antone,
And I sure was sick of that tune,
But she didn’t seem to mind.
Well, them boys had a plan,
And it didn’t include Antonio,
Or that Guitar,
And things got bad
Then they got worse,
I think I hit one before it all got dark,
I woke up in the alley,
And my head hurt.
We rode south the next day
Without much to show for the long ride north,
And Antonio and that guitar were no-where to be seen.
Made a promise to myself,
Under that hot sun
Never to befriend Texicans,
Or frequent black saloons,
But that was all along time ago,
And now I take some candy along
On Sunday afternoons,
When I go to visit Rosarita and the kids,
And try to talk Antonio into visiting
Another black saloon.

This was so 'symitarish'...hehehehe. You sure had a clamp on her style.
The narrative was pleasant and the form was good!! Thank you for offering this to such a fine lady and poet!! Warmly, CookieZeal -
you've done a great job here lute.....

hmmmm...
A very cool narrative, this. Almost like being there, listening to a grizzled man tell the story...and yes, I've read about Symitar's Rosarita; this piece is a perfect complement. -
Great story Lute.
Good luck in the contest.
I had pictures of 'El Paso' by Marty Robbins.

Lute,
Again you show your versatility with stories, characters and plots - and demonstrate your ability to combine them with poetry. This was a fantastic tale, and as a previous comment also said, I went somewhere I've not had the pleasure of being, so thank you for that.
You have a wonderful imagination.

You sure hit on the head of character here!!! It's nearly like a collaboration if you ask me. So Americana/Mexicano!
Very neat...effective! I wish you the best. Symitar's the finest in the part that no one else touches!! Good as Texas gold.....lol
Thank you, CookieZeal -
Cool, took me to a place that I have never been too before, and captured the moment well, well in my imagination anyways. Excellent write, good luck in the contest
