I know what it's like
that feeling
like a trapped animal
smiling on the outside
while the tears inside never cease
you dread each new day
thinking, wondering, pleading
waiting for it to end, but it never does
slowly the days, months, years go by
your forced laughter
turns into a wretching sigh
I've been there
when you finally break
your pain is no longer hidden
your emotions you can no longer fake
and it only begins to intensify
it never stops, it's always there
your nights are long, your days are longer
and nothing anymore seems fair.
