The world's kept me up for years,
far back as this boomer remembers;
Vietnam still bleeds so loud,
Desert Storms toss and turn,
since kids still play
army in the dark;
Tonight Iraq has me pacing,
last night North Korea,
a week ago the Russian Giant
awakened by the prophet's cry;
Bickering between LA and DC,
keeps both hands over my ears,
hearing of children gone to war
returning not with their Uncle Sam;
Tylenol PM doesn't do it anymore,
since living so close to 911;
peace running down Rockwell's America,
happy endings fade to black and white;
I can see the sun rise from the East
covered in mushroom clouds,
wanting to settle here in the West,
which has me predicting
by dawn's early light
we should all be asleep.

Oh, I love how you wove all the world events into this. Nicely done. Thank you so much for entering.

Boy, how true the events of today can keep you awake! Always seems to be something else to 'alarm' us, dismay us, bring sorrow to us, confuse us, and anger us when we find out we've been lied to. With all the other normal, daily stresses in life, it's a wonder anyone sleeps!
Anyways, I liked this. Good luck in your contest.
