As I sit here in the beauty of life
The humming of its driving force
Echoes along the rim of my conscious mind.
The flare of dreaming to be one with the beat
Stillness
Yet there is life that sings
Deep within my memories and thoughts.
The breath of this force
Breathing gently along my face
Pulling at my clothes to push me
Trying to make me play.
The gravity of all these thoughts is letters
They twist and bend into secrets
Showing us the way to live
And love the world.
The patience of this light
Pure and reviving to the soul and mind
Forces out the drowning darkness
Brings forth the true happiness.
The guidance of its love
Arms for safely
Created only within my heart
You must let it in.
The sounds of the rushing winds of Life
Hush now for you can't hear it if you speak
The thumping of its heart beat
Poetry is breathing
The humming of its driving force
Echoes along the rim of my conscious mind.
The flare of dreaming to be one with the beat
Stillness
Yet there is life that sings
Deep within my memories and thoughts.
The breath of this force
Breathing gently along my face
Pulling at my clothes to push me
Trying to make me play.
The gravity of all these thoughts is letters
They twist and bend into secrets
Showing us the way to live
And love the world.
The patience of this light
Pure and reviving to the soul and mind
Forces out the drowning darkness
Brings forth the true happiness.
The guidance of its love
Arms for safely
Created only within my heart
You must let it in.
The sounds of the rushing winds of Life
Hush now for you can't hear it if you speak
The thumping of its heart beat
Poetry is breathing
Author notes
"Among the Haida Indians of the Pacific Northwest, the verb
for 'making poetry' is the same as the verb 'to breathe'."

oh dear - as was written in the contest description, I asked for poems which had not won anything before, which this one has.
Thanks anyway. -
This piece is very unique. I have read perhaps only two or three pieces of poetry on writing poetry itself, and though you attempted to capture the feeling, you succeeded. When I'm writing a piece, the emotions you describe are what I feel, and the images you've swirled up in my mind are what I see, and I enjoyed being able to thoroughly relate to this lovely experience. You end on a pure thought with the last line, and it strikes a great note in reference to the title. I like that.
Thanks for letting me read this piece and entering it in the contest!

A Very Special Poem.
I loved this, it's a very special poem. You capture a moment that we all have felt when writing poetry, and your line about poetry breathing was excellent. Congrats on your trophy. You have a real poetic talent. Really well done. All my very best wishes from Rose xxx

I agree, this is lovely and I especially loved the way you've weaved this poem around breathing. I know Wanda will so appreciate this as you wrote something for her about something that is very dear to her.

Tell Night Hope, right below me, that for I got it from her. Yet thank you nevertheless.

This IS a lovely penning, Poet. Thank you for your kindness. Poems about poetry, the art & craft of writing, are my favorite kinds. Good luck in the contest. Be well, Poet.
