With the hush of ripples
the sounds of night bed down
Rigel and Mintaka flicker in Orion
blue water licks light from your upturned palm
Coyote howls a mournful nocturne
as Lanaphastra penetrates the redwoods
Five sharp bursts from a hunter’s horn
summon the spirit of Herne ..
Behind my back, small waves slick
the mosaics, wet with thirst
Hearts press close...
feel my pulse in your chest
After you, scent lingers
as the brine closes in...

Nothing can quite compare to that memory - that intimacy of sleep after lovemaking.. getting through the night together.. lying entwined until an arm becomes numb then lying like two spoons until sleep doesn't come that way, then turning back and reverting to aloneness together amid the sighs and the signs of the passage from darkness to morning...
