is what you will find
here, defying
the wear of time.
Resolute
sandstone edifices,
amid arid winds,
reflecting
the resolve of passion,
yet whispering
its frankincense memory
to any who will listen.
Once, fervent prayers
and cultured melodies
echoed
throughout this
chiseled bastion,
now, it is
a coddled treasure
harbored by ever watchful
craggy grandparents.
If you listen carefully though,
you may hear
the stones
as they bid you to come,
for they have a story to tell.

yes, I like the revision. Thank you.

"frankincense memory" is so wonderful as is "chiseled bastion". I somehow feel that this poem (and place)has so many wonderful details, I just wish it could have a more upbeat tone instead of a melancholy one, especially since we are celebrating its inclusion into the New 7 World Wonders. If you would like to work on revising this, let me know, but be sure not to just dispose of the original (keep it in the author's comment box so I can compare.) Thank you.

Yep! a Frankincense memory!
You've captured the essence of Petra with your poetry!
Wonderful entry - Good Luck in the contest!

"If you listen carefully,
you may hear the stones
as they cry out."
This is a lovely piece, Poet. Pensive, poignant & pure in thought. I wrote a poem about Petra for a different contest, as well. Good luck in your competition. Be well, Poet.
