How I despair of parenthood –
the dreaded package tour
designed to mingle sun and food
with things that should endure;
the strong desire to guide and teach
a cultured overlay,
blocked by their longing for a beach
and somewhere “cool” to play.
A rose-red city half as old
as time, my final bet –
what’s this, it gives them more delight
than any visit yet?
Don’t speak too soon, they holler “Mom!”
to honour Burgon’s bones?
No way – here is what makes them grin…
“It’s Indiana Jones!”
They run to find the Holy Grail,
in every nook they peek.
I sip a silent lemonade,
and slip into the Siq.

Yep! I'm an Indiana Dude Too!
Whimsy never sounded so sweet, and as a story teller you're as astounding as Petra!
Congrats to you!

"We named the DOG 'Indiana'!" Thank you for that assessment of my story-telling, Tangle.

This is a very funny take on the contest theme and though I didn't realize Petra set the stage for Indiana Jones, I must say, you are right on the money on how much kids can enjoy the real thing like this. I really get a tremendous kick out of this write. Well done indeed.

Yep! It's good ol' Indiana!!!
I bet you're a Sean Connery fan too! (not because he wears those kilts either - I know - I know!)
You rhymes are wonderful as always and I was truly taken by your wit again!
Good Luck to you in the contest!
your barm-pot,
Tangle
I did - I did mean fan!!! Thanks for the correction!

Historically hysterical! Another wonderful poem from your freely flowing pen of many splendors- and a few bits of silliness as well. Best of luck in the contest with this marvelous piece.

You make the horror of a vacation look like fun!
Also, it sounds very smart, which is how you do things, always!
Loved reading this!

Ah more history from the queen of history herself. The city of Rekem in Mount Seir can't even hold the interest of children who want to play. This is exactly what a mom would do, simply give up, sit and drink lemonade and enjoy the fact that she's there away from home and watch the children play. This is delightful.
Love,
Amera ♥

I'm glad you like this little piece of nonsense.
(Suddenly I'm the queen of history... how wonderful
)
