So rickety, so fragile
Made of rope, sweat, tears, and blood
Try as we might
The mortar will not hold
And everything comes crumbling down
Slowly, surly, with patience fit for a King
We build our bridge
Sometimes we have help
Friends and family willing to support us
But truly we build alone
With the mortar of life
We try to build it stronger
But the rain eats at our foundations
Termites chew on the wood
Everything we do comes crashing down
Around our very souls
But up we climb to begin anew
With stone that will outlast the rain
And bricks to defeat the termites
Our mortar might crumble
But it still stands strong
A memento to our lives
Please tell me what you think

This is excellent work and very deep thoughts transformed into a beautiful and thought provoking poem. Life is like a temple, a spiritual existence is wonderful. My favourite part of this poem is:-
But up we climb to begin anew
With stone that will outlast the rain
And bricks to defeat the termites
Our mortar might crumble
But it still stands strong
A memento to our lives
Great spirit!!!

Today. I built a bridge out of toothpicks,
Blunt, ugly fingers placing them so delicately in place.
With glue as their mortar,
Laughing when it fell down..

Actually.. >< I really did.. I'm one of those people who when they need to calm themselves, do something insanely tedious..
This was beautiful though darling.. And even when things seem to come crashing down on us, you still deserve to smile..
Excellent job.
