Black copse surrounds this darkened place
grey stones slip sideways as if pushed
by those ancient tenants long gone
from out the world in coffin strong.
Two men stoop low to get their prey
a body fresh as they can find
from out the ground just now interred
the job is done the game is o'er
Carrying burden just got out
they move to doctor's darkened house
and there transact just as agreed
the resurrection now complete.
Author notes
I didn't understand the acronym MIA - Mixed In Aspic??? So I did this. Burke & Hare were the well known grave robbers who supplied doctors in Scotland - they became known as The Resurrection Men

Might like this idea. Sounds like the makings of a great Vincent Price movie. Well done

Thanks for both your MIA explanation and your kind words. Iffen I had known about Missing In Action I would probably not have written the poem so ignorance is often bliss after all.

first of all, MIA stands for 'Missing In Action', which was brought on by my being absent for a while, but now that I have returned, I thought of a Resurrection contest to get the group rekindled so to speak.
Your write is a very apt one for it's historical oultook, they made a fortune from the dead, and who knows what medical advances were gained from the Dr's work.
A very interesting piece, well done.
