Is Luck just a lady?
She'll shoot down a matey
Who bets his whole family's success.
That's the last he saw
Of the luck of the draw
And of serendipitousness.
So Nature's our mother?
Then why does she smother
Her children with thunder and ice?
Her notions are haughty.
Her actions are naughty.
Her phrases say, "All you play nice."
If Death waits for no man,
Then is Death a woman?
That harlot! That goblin! That wench!
She'll do all her bidding
And leave Mankind sitting
On stairway, on tree stump, on bench!
