Struck

He was just a man.
And ordinary man
fumbling his way through life.
All around him was darkness.
All except where he'd been.
He had climbed high mountains
and gone through deep valleys.
All he had to guide him
were voices.
They came from all directions.
Calling to him from the dark.
Calling to him from the light.
"This way will bring you fame."
"This way will make you rich."
"Stay back here in the past
where you can SEE what's happening."
They all sounded pleasant.
His choice to follow just one was not easy.
There was one voice most compelling though.
It did not promise anything.
It would only say one thing...
"Follow me."
This is the voice he chose.
Out of everything promised
he chose the unknown.
Was the voice one of a deciever?
Was the voice one that could be trusted?
He was afraid.
But he knew turning back
would only lead
to voices.
Rebuking him,
Blaming him,
Bringing him down.
"You still have time to gain fame!"
"You still have time to become rich!"
"Follow me."
As he walked toward this voice
all of a sudden
light pierced the darkness
and struck him.
When he woke he could see perfectly.
He could see all around him.
There was no darkness.
He saw that he walked a narrow path.
On both sides was a land that was dying.
He blinked.
No longer was his world lit.
He had to travel in darkness once more.
"Follow me."
The man has continued to follow the voice.
The voice has NEVER decieved him.
Time and time again
he would hear the other voices.
He would have a want to follow them.
But he cannot deny
The day he was struck by lightning.
Because of this
he continues to follow the voice,
the mysterious and compelling voice,
the voice that continues to say,
"Follow me."

    Not bad

Very religious. Unfortunately I am not such a believer. But as for the writing, it's good--feels more like a story than a poem. The way you centered it gives it that aura as well. I think it would sound better as a story, if it is to stay a poem-you could improve how it flows a bit. Nice though. Will you check out the one I just posted? Anarchy's Red. I dunno how to do links.

    How true

The small still voice of the Lord is always calling..... Come follow me! He promises nothing except joy, friendship, eternal salvation, and a purpose in life that transcends all the useless stuff people normally chase after. God bless you princess, Mark
