Sometimes

Sometimes in my life I find
I'm almost drowning, swimming blind,
Caught by currents I can't steer,
Fighting panic, fighting fear.

Sometimes life is loud and fast
And all the moments slip right past
Without a beat to stop and sieze
A tiny breath of blissful peace.

Sometimes someone needs to know
A friend beside them loves them so
And kindly thoughts are with them still
Through pain and grief and dreams fulfilled.

Sometimes action just won't do
And words and smiles seem useless, too.
So, helpless, I can only say
A word or two, then watch and pray.

Author notes

To me, prayer is a statement to the universe that something should be done, and I cannot do it; an acknoledgement that I am not infinite in power and that yes, some things should be different. But often they aren't.
