autumn leaves

crispy golden leaves
unable to keep their grip
dance along the ground

exuberant leaves
dance and swirl and pirouette
alive beneath the trees

egged on by the wind
hoards of cocky leaves depart
laughing as they go

leaves high in the sky
like yellow spring butterflies
sunlit from behind

freed from their moorings
leaves adrift as scheduled
can never go home

Author notes

I love the form and the strong metaphors here: dancing, cocky and scheduled. You are very strong on creating visual imagery for you reader.

I'll be the first to tell you I know nothing of form. I enjoyed this piece wholeheartedly anyway. Autumn is my favorite season and you have captured it here quite nicely. I just love those crispy, dancing leaves.
