I had a home...once
But it is gone; destroyed by war.
The enemies lit fire to our homes, our walls, our everything
And as the wood withered into nothingness,
So did our hope.
Now, I am forced to move again
Into a refugee camp.
A killing ground is more accurate though
With all the death that is here
Can I really call this place a Sanctuary?
Just because I am safe from the blunt of war?
I don't think so,
Because war is knocking- again -at the front gate.

Great work ...
You did very well here, showing a heart for those who suffer as collateral damage of war. Thanks for creating this. Warm regards, Sultan

deep
A question poem, its weave is wise for the poet writing it, how lovely this is...true to war there is never sanctuary till all wars are over...

The price of progress is never paid by those that benefit from the destruction caused, but always by the innocents and the hardy souls that are embroiled within it's confines. War is a tool used by the powerful, never giving concern to those in it's path. Very nicely done and very meaningful. Thanks for entering into the contest.
Be well and be blessed,

War takes many prisoners, old and young. It does not show favorism in destruction and touched many life's that never are the same.
Well written of truth and heartach.
Love the closing line, it is strong and powerful.
Nicely done.
Thank you for entering!

You are anything but a geek! I love this poem- it shows a depth of character and maturity you don't often see in 13 year old girls, and I also love your page, and everything you said on it (except about hating math- stick to - one day you will love it!)

Sad and Somber
War has its victims, both those who are killed and wounded and those who live on in the wreckage. The thought of a sanctuary in a world torn by war, is a needed thing, but as you stated, sometimes a sanctuary is not real, except in the terrified eyes of children.
Well done. Thanks for writing this. Good luck in the contest.
