My Mother......My Best Friend

Written By Lisa Morris

38 years ago you gave me life
And then you watched me grow
Knowing I love you with all my heart
Is something you should know

Then when illness struck me down
You stayed with me all night
You sacrificed it all for me
You were my guiding light

You raised me from childhood on
Then taught me how to dance
Someday I'll prove to you my love
If you just give me a chance

Sometimes we fumble in the dark
But I'm ok cause I have you
You're like the sweetest breath of air
In the calming morning dew

You overlooked all my faults
And loved me anyway
To find the words to express my love
I don't know what to say

To me you'll always be my mom
And I'm lost when you're not near
You're the best friend I ever had
I only wish that you were here

I think about you everyday
As I wipe away my tears
You chased away my monsters
And kissed away my fears

Along this fragile path of life
You always cared for me
Now I write this poem for you
In hopes that you can see

When I was but a child
A long long time ago
You prepared me for the world ahead
You taught me everything you know

I feel so lost cause you're not here
There's something missing in my heart
I want to be where you are at
And never be apart

My loyalty is endless
It can never fade away
You are like the shining sun
On a bright and sunny day

It's so lonely here without you
I can barley stand the pain
My tears cascade down my cheek
Like a cold December rain

Now I have a family
To call my very own
I think that you'd be proud of me
If you could see me fully grown

I owe the way I am to you
On this we would agree
When I stand before the mirror
I see you staring back at me

So mom this poem was meant for you
And I hope it touched your heart
And even though we're not together
We will never be apart

    Beautiful

this is a beautiful write however it is extremly to long for this book and also not every mother would feel this is for her. But I applaud you on such a wonderful write.

Very nicely done and a great dedication to your Mother. If only every Mother cared and loved as much as yours, maybe this world would not be in such a mess. Bless you...Scott

"But I'm ok cause I have you" - "cause" should have the apostrophe in front of it. "Because" and "Cause" are two different words, with two different pronunciations.

"You're the best friend I ever had" - this line reads a tad off in tense, I feel you could rework it to be better than what it is.

You have another usage of "cause" that should be 'cause in this line: "I feel so lost cause you're not here".

A lovely poem that you have written here.

Very sweet and touching poem. I was close to my adoptive mom, Sandy but I am not close to my stepmother, Lori. My adoptive mom passed away in year of 2004. But I cherish the good memories that I've had with her. I still love and care for my stepmother, Lori.
