As she struts down the hall
Head held high and proud
As if she can do it all
She knows that she can be alone
And she’s not just lonely
She understands that she can wait
To find her one and only
Just because she has breasts
Doesn’t mean that she’s a tool
She doesn’t use them to her advantage though
Gods, she’s just plain cool
She stands up for what she believes in
Even if that means standing alone
In the cold dead of night, tied to a tree
In the silver scarf she’s sewn
Because just because she’s independent
Doesn’t mean she’s not a woman too
She’s just as feminine, just as cute
But she’s just confident too
I can see in her sparkling eyes
That she is not pretending
She realises some people are scared
Of the messages she’s sending
But to me she is a mentor
The woman I idealise
Some day I want to walk around with
That strength in my own eyes
Oh, and by the way, she can open doors herself
Author notes
Not the best I've written, but not terrible either. Content is obvious. The last line's my favourite.
Personally I think women can't expect chivalry if they want equality. I mean, I'm a woman myself, but this is still my belief. Ain't nothing wrong with being feminine though!

this is wonderful
very well written, sounds like a woman who can do it all, stand on her own and take on the world. at the same time, still be gentle and tender too
congrats on the gold, it was deserved
be well and be blessed

thank you very much. I wish I acted more independent though, especially around my boyfriend!

Congratulations on the Gold
You walloped my prize poem!
Glad to see it went to a deserving poem, though... our sentiments were rather similar! Best of luck in future contests!

Great piece you've written here. I think you're 100% right. Sure, guys can be knights in shining armor, but they must realize that they have to choose their battles because we don't always need them. Loved the use of the last line. Rock on, girl.

Well, I thought this was really a cool poem. Perhaps you're an indenpendent girl, too? Or just a guy who likes independent girls, like I do? Either way, you seem to know a lot about what makes an independent girl. But then again, this might be about someone you know, so I don't really have a single clue, whatsoever.
Nice job and good luck in my contest. May you do well in the future! -
Nice Balance
This has about the best message I've read so far, IMO. Good rhyme scheme, reads well without being obvious about it like a TV jingle
Don't know about the chivalry part, I can accept a man's chivalry if he can accept my opinion! The 'weaker' sex doesn't mean dumber!

He he he chivalry is always appreciated of course! I think it should be more about respect and politeness than men being EXPECTED to do it. I'll have to think about this. Thanks for the comment though, nichtmich.
