there’s just something
about riding in my daddy’s truck
like I did last night.
we drove around
with the country music
blaring
looking at the sleeping world
the windows were down
and the wind
picked up my hair and
turned it alive
I had to hold onto my
cowboy hat
so it didn’t get swept
away
the sky was the color
of a midnight diamond,
the moon
-pulsing
-hovering,
above the hills
the tires greeted
the old dirt roads like
an old friend
the stars were alive
in the sky:
not like in the city,
covered by layers of
evolution
out there, you really could see
but you didn’t only see
with your eyes,
when you really see
you see by feeling what
was happening,
and by hearing
and smelling
and tasting
when i get my own truck
i’ll drive around the country
at night
and invite my dad along
for the ride
and never, ever
put the windows up

Amazing
Being a country girl, I can relate to this totally. I like the way you included hearing, tasting and smelling. I know just what you mean! That part about the wind blowing your hair and making it come to life is terrific! At the end of stanza 7, did you mean evolution or pollution? Just asking, this is very good.

I really don't know what I meant, but that just a working word until I can come up with another one!!

Thanks for the comment. And I am such a country girl.
