what makes me a poet?
do i bend emotions to my will?
no, i bend to them
what makes me a soldier?
do i have no feeling?
no, the feeling is there
but i bring you the feelings
through words you'd never find
and still i go home after the war is gone
you read and hear my rhymes
but the war's still in my mind
you can't comprehend
cause we can't understand
why we feel naked
why we feel alone
haven't been by myself for three months
but i'll sit alone in my room
thinking
about faces
drinking
my troubles
sinking
lower
but i can explain all i want
because the words
the words are what bend to my emotions
you think as i do
we feel your presence
and i'll explain it to you
one comrade at a time
if you never see a battle cross
you can't feel it
but i'll show you how i felt
cause i'm the poet warrior
Author notes

Kelly says this piece is very well written. Poignant and from the heart. Bob says, I can relate to this piece. I'm an Army man retired after 22 years. I read this poem and was able to feel something from it. I don't beleive poets are "cross breeds" only different in the sense that they are able to put into words emotions and thoughts and sights that only I can experiance in my own way, and thats not to write it down. I think we are all different to some extent, thats what makes the world exciting, the differences we share with each other. Thanks for entering our contest! And the best of luck to you. Kelly & Bob
