The Grampa Tree

Out in the front field
stands an ancient Silver Maple,
an aging monument to nature's perseverance,
rising stately from sun-dappled swale.

Impressive, this Methuselah -
Two enormous trunks held aloft,
twin siblings in a centuries-old race for the sky,
each vying to outdo the other
with outstretched arms offering
leaves to the heavens.

Yet where dark mosses gather
and root meets earth,
rivalry is forgone...
The brothers are
one.

    Wonderfully enviable

Oh, this is brilliant. In my opinion, it echo’s of Robert Frost (who is one of my favorites) and nature poems tend to speak to me in a very special way. Such a beautiful diction and voice; truly enviable sir.

Nicely penned here, I tend to like the images of nature, especially if combined with mythology and metaphor. Beautiful imagry with this one.

man.. so nice to find this here-

this is exactly the sort of poem i was hoping to find with the prompt-

    i love that you
    chose a stately old tree
    divided in two halves
    to be your connection-

    wonderful

    thanks

    Wonderful

I have a Red Maple in my front yard and I have taken many a picture of her beauty. But! In the Fall I tell her she just has to many leaves to rake up.
    Enjoyed the poem.
