~
Five minutes,
turning tinted pages.
Bending over,
and stroking some.
Bursting memories,
years after forming.
Unquestionably,
joyful.
Sighing shoulders,
in recall
of smiling youth
we used to be.
Moment's regret,
pass as we stroke
our child's head
and present comes.
Those mistakes,
and short comings
all were repaid
in agings mean time.

Author notes
NOTE: i'm 12, but i'd though to put the age range up a big notch to get a bigger group to relate, but this is me looking back when i was younger.
it makes me positive when i know i learned from my mistakes and have repaid the people with something good or better.

I must say that this is highly unusual in many ways. Given your age [I am around an 11 year old a lot of the time], anyway to have the ability to touch this part of yourself already..........the "future you" is quite an accomplishment of such a young mind [maybe you are one of those with an old soul]

then if I take it and read it and pretend that I do not know your age , it sounds so realistic as to what is down the line in the future......and the pride in past accomplishments.....anyway, this has definitely caught my attention. Thank you so much for entering and best wishes,

This is a very beautiful poem considering that you are only 12. Keep writing little fellow poet!

I've bought every single year book and every single picture from every single year, and I don't regret it! I love photos/ old journals, and things I can look back on in general. 'Awww, those were the days'.... One of my favorite things to say!
Nice write, sis.

Wow, this is very good sis!
I love how this relates to many different people on so many different levels, relating to me in the same way as it does to you.
It is nice to know that we mature and learn from the many mistakes we make overtime, and you put it very well with a lot of emotion.
VERY well done, and good luck in the contest!

Shows maturity for your age. I am a bit older than you (not telling how much) and yes, I can relate very much. I pull out my old yearbook or photos form time to time and they do always make me smile. Nice job.
