You'll enjoy being ten,
for ten is when
you're well on the way
to when boys change to men.
The changes will come,
you’II have no choice.
The one most obvious
will be that your voice
will alter its range,
which could drop right down
from its present soprano
to a bass-baritone.
Though it may decide
not to go all the way,
and you, in the future,
a tenor will stay.
Just think of the choirs
in which you will sing —
the ‘Ninth’ by Beethoven,
and that sort of thing,
male voices, female voices
joyousIy bIending,
from the opening notes
to a blissful Amen-ing.
So, my young singer, enjoy
the life of a ten year old boy.
For many years you’ll be a man—
so sing soprano while you can.

nostalgic!
this reminds me when I was ten, and felt shy to speak coz my voice was changing...

I really enjoyed this! I don't think that I've ever read a poem based on choral music before. Its very true, though, and it made me smile. Good luck in the contest.
