Poets are an empty cup,
Waiting to be filled.
When things overwhelm them,
They burst out over the brim.
Spilling on paper,
Making out words.
A poet is a person,
Who finds relief in paper,
And a pen.
They can be a child,
Cherishing their first gift.
They could be a warrior,
Struggling to find a way home.
They could be office clerk,
Trying to make it through the day.
They can be anybody,
Surviving in their own way.
Nothing makes a poet, or an artist,
Except the willingness to show what is hidden within,
In a way that others choose to see.
Author notes
For Bob... do you like it? I had to put a little thought into the phrasing, but I think it came out quite well. If there are any small things, or big things for that matter, that you think I should fix don't hesistate to tell me.

Kelly says I wouldn't cahnge a thing, very nice poem! Bob says although he understands that people from all walks of life can be a writer/poet, not everyone has the ability to put words on paper eloquently. We appreciate you entering our contest and wish you the best of luck! Kelly & Bob

To Kelly: Thanks. To Bob: Well, I agree that not everyone has the ability to put words on paper eloquently but that doesn't mean they're not a poet. I've seen some awful poetry, but that person is still a poet. They're not a good one, but they are still one all the same. Thanks again for your comment.
