They said it was going to rain today;
It didn't
We're bombarded with footage, with archival photos
We believe everything they tell us,
Everything they shove down our throats,
They dazzle us with situations in other places,
Making us forget our own filthy backyards
They said it was going to be a scorcher today,
But it snowed, instead
They tell us what to buy, what to eat,
What to wear, what to drive, how we should smell...
And we listen, and we follow
We are puppets moved by puppets moved by puppets
We cannot see the puppetmasters,
For they blind us with baubles and trinkets
They said the economy was recovering today,
But I still see plenty of people sitting in corners,
With cups of bus fare or beer money (I forget which)
Sure, the economy's recovering,
For the barons:
We gladly drive our SUV's, feeding them
The blood of our children
Who are, after all, only following orders, too
The heads on the box, the faceless newsprint,
These are the gospel for today's zombie shoppers,
Mindless, yet filled with great purpose
Whenever they sign a credit card receipt.

This says it all very well. I am one who lives outside of society while existing in it. I do my part to change the world one smile at a time for any I meet.

Wow, lol! You totally creamed the real world. If there is a real world, the way you potray the everyday life out of the eyes of someone who is saddened, brings me to believe the two preceptions are very well used in this poem. The two perception's being, Good eyes do happy body movement's while sad eyes over look the future, Well I will stop rambiling! It's a nice song, and poem. You could have them as both. Good luck in the contest!
