Remember When

When was the last time you truly felt content?
All you ever wanted was to be “good enough”
But nobody ever notices the efforts that you make

Do you remember the first time you smoked?
The taste from the cigarette was so intoxicating
Just wanted to try it, to fit in with the cool kids
The more you inhaled, the more addicting it was

And your stomach hurt from the food you didn’t eat
The weight you lost was beginning to show
Then someone tells you, “You look really good”
Nothing could describe how it felt to hear those words

Do you remember how it felt with the razor in your hand?
Watching the blade as it pierced through skin
Only wanting to numb the pain you felt inside
Every scar a reminder of everything gone wrong

And do you remember what it was like to have someone who cared
Finally, a weight was lifted as you spilled all your secrets
Days later she deserted you to hang with someone else
By then, the entire world knew you as ‘that pathetic girl’

[Why does word get around so fast around school?]

Do you remember the day you lost your innocence?
Everything was such a blur not knowing what to feel
With a million questions running through your mind
Constantly wondering will he love me more after this?

With every minute that passed, it was all beginning to show
The hideous scars, the bones, the yellow teeth, everything
Nothing could cover up all the mistakes you casted upon yourself
Every inch of your existence reflecting your oh so visible flaws

Author notes

I think I had posted a poem similar to this a few months ago, but then I deleted it b/c I didn't like it. This one is not quite finished and I'm not sure if it ever will be. This poem just makes me think about when ppl look back on the things they've done and the first thought that comes to mind is "how could I have been so stupid?". I know I've told myself that before. Hope you like it <3

Please tell me what you think

    Dang...

...This is a really great poem! It is amazing because I got such vivid imagery while reading this poem. Be it of people I know who have done the things you said or just of people created through your words. Great write!

    Oh wow...
    This is beautiful.

Did you write this recently? Because I remember a poem a lot like this (as you mentioned in your author's notes) but it seems almost exact. But anyways, you address some really heavy topics in here that I think a lot of people can relate to. I know I can relate to it. Great job, as always. :]
