Seven Sapphires

Missing image
So hopeful came this man to the house of love
heavy purse, empty heart, and a journey far
unto patient rapping answered great beauty;
sleep covets his eyes

In morning sunrise a vision to his thoughts
as two glowing orbs upon the crest of dawn
until senses caught flowing gown and doorway.
Rising to wants found,

heart filled with hope that beneath adoring gaze
such beauty, that would flow from a loving heart;
wondrous worldly form and a soul blessed in light.
Feeling heart's desire,

in days that ran as falling waters in spring;
he watched and as he grew ever more convinced
to choose this woman to fill his lonely life.
Purse of seven stones,

under dark sky of night bright young stars delight,
paid weight of dowery unto a face unseen.
Leaving lands of her home, man and woman bound;
holding heart's desire.

A septet of bright stars followed in the skies
as she spoke her love with open purse between,
Freely I chose, t'was to my own hand you gave
seven fires of blue.

    I am learning this form and I enjoyed reading your poem which was deep in content and story but created an air of sufficient interest to follow it to its conclusion and thus reinforce my feelings for this form of poetry and understand it wide possibilities such as you have shown

    Fine poem, thank you for honouring my contest with it.

    Do watch out for mis-spelt words, though. It's "dowry" with two syllables, and that makes an unfortunate mess of your syllable count in that line.

    Keep trying this form - I think you have an eye for it.
