On Turning Seventy (Honorable winner )

As many have said when that BIG day rolls around again,
age is just a state of mind.
Then they wine you and dine you and again remind you
that age is just a state of mind,
when that BIG day rolls around again.

Now you ask me to write for you a quick fix.
One to make you feel like a spring hatched chick.
A poem to make you feel young again,
one that will take you way back when.

Why would you want to go back to a time long ago,
when you still have so many things left to know.
Better to greet the future with a smile,
then want to re-walk those over rated miles.

You know we've never found that Fountain of Youth,
But you've long lost your last baby tooth.
And there is no youth pill in our bag of tricks,
yet you still want to feel like a new born chick.

But since I have no tall dark and handsome hunk in my new bag of tricks
and you still want to feel like that newly hatched chick.
I will offer you this little comment of mine.
One I hope will make your beautiful smile shine

We all know that blood is thicker then wine
and together we will never be more then a score times four.
Because we know that love will make the ties that bind,
you and I will remain sisters for ever and more.

For age is truely only a state of mind!

Author notes

I wrote this a year ago for my sister Catz's birthday but it is quite appropriate this year again since I also just turned 70...Strange how it ended up my 31st poem...that is if I counted correctly...

A lovely tribute to a Lovely lady from a lovely Lady.
The imagery was great and expressed the feelings of all of us who have passed ( 29,? Ha.Ha. )

Ah this made me sigh! This poem was so meaningful. You used quite beautiful imagination to compose a great job. This sentence has so much to say: “For age is truly only a state of mind!” and I agree. Unfortunately I don’t know you but I know my auntie. She has a heart of gold and the spirit of a young lady.
Thank you for this special piece. And wish you luck in the contest

Darlene, This has to be the most special gift that Dee will receive this year. She was so right in saying the humor/serious effect you put in there. They are both filled with so much love and emotion. They bring those tears of happiness not only to her, you have me flowing freely as I write this for you. Having three sisters I can so totally relate to this as I am the youngest of the four at the tender age of 47. Nearing that 1/2 century mark means nothing right now, it's all in how you feel and I always feel young at heart. Thank you for sharing the elegance of your pen with us and my best to you in the contest. Love and God bless you my friend, Joyce

OMG, this one brought tears AND smiles Thanks, Sis for such a cool birthday tribute. It means a lot to me.

Yeah, I know, each moment has it's special purpose, no matter the age, thanks for this kinda humorous/serious reminder.

Age can be confusing sometimes, huh. My mind and body... and the calender tell me I'm 70 (almost) But my mind, my outlook and my sense of being, still are telling me I'm much younger. And on and on...

Thanks for such a meaningful poem

    love and
    Dee

      confused...who? Me"...naw

      Speak for yourself...

I had this posted last night but deleted it to "fix" a couple of things...also took the photo off because of the changes but it is better this way..but

You are right about looking in the mirror and seeing some one way older then in our mind's eye...Think I will stIck with the image in my head...

My mother in law said that years ago..."Who is that old lady looking back at me..."

I am glad you liked what I wrote...Love to you and many more happy birthdays...

      ..Darlene
