that night, that night
ablaze with drunken crowds
I shrunk in fear
cannibal skirts under fireworks
bodies pressed in a crowd
it was you all along
a child again
saved from glitter gangs
street light echoed onto your bed
to touch, to be
blanketing fuzz of black
wrapping around us
I felt your eyes
the things I vowed never to say
pouring to your heartbeat
over and over
every rule broken
for you all along
eternity was ours to throw away
your touch was worth so much more
to explode into tears
for sheer love, sheer illusion
days ran dry
sand paper lives grated
phone lines fraying
broken conversations
disputes, lost in translation
tighter and tighter my grip
till I let go
some zips can't be done back up
block, undo, buttons too tempting
But what is left?
a blank page
polite conversation
severed association
