How shall I know the depth of my desire,
before I pass the point of no return,
where delving may turn deeper but no higher,
and tempers sated suffer still to burn?
How shall I know when I am really done,
when winds have blown these ashes long away?
How shall I know that you were finally gone?
How shall I know? What would the silence say?
How shall I know my love is truly free,
when lungs exhausted lose their final breath
to cry, I know that you were there with me,
if just for one brief instant before my death?
And who should leave before their love was near?
If love is death, I would it were already here.
