Happy Birthday Dee

At the door and knocking
her hair in dainty curls
Anxiously awaiting
some more of life’s real pearls

I only came to know her
several months ago
Through her words of caring
that touched my very soul

You might say I’m partial
to ladies young and fair
But never have I spurned
the ones with silver hair

With age there comes a charm
that can not be obtained
By worldly wiles or wishing,
life’s not an easy game

Three score and nine have passed,
to mark the quantity
Of years of joy she’s given
to everyone she sees

So now she’s at the threshold,
a date with seventy
I just hope he’s able
to fill her every need

Aww...Leo...this is divine! Dee is so very special. I've known her since I came to AP. She has always been kind and generous and your poem certainly shows that with zest and zeal of life. I want o be just like her when I grow up,which is not too far away. LOL Great! Congrats on the honorable mention.

The whole poem was so beautiful but the last stanza was something!! Yes getting old gives people silver hair. You penned this poem so wisely. I am so glad I came across your poem today and thank you for making my auntie’s birthday more special! Best of luck

Awww, Leo, I knew you'd come through I love this nice personal birthday wish. It's very special to me.

I haven't seen my kids and grandkids for a few years and my big hope for this birthday was for Sal and I to be able to go to Washington to see them but it doesn't look like we'll be able to after all. They were planning a big birthday bash but maybe they'll hold off for #71... I'll REALLY be ready for a celebration by then.

Thank you for entering this lovely and refreshing poem

    Dee
